This project focused on designing a new integrated feature for street bike dashboards that allows riders to locate and connect with nearby friends or other active riders in real time. Built around the needs of sport riders seeking community and smart connectivity, the feature enables seamless group ride coordination, ride invitations, and live navigation—all directly from the dashboard. The design process included user research, persona development, journey mapping, competitive analysis, and iterative testing to ensure both safety and usability. The final solution blends performance with social connection, enhancing the riding experience through intuitive, rider-centered design. Click me or on the dashboard to use the product!
Handle Bar
Controls
When designing the handle bar controls and how they would work, I wanted to keep the controls simple make it as intuitive for the user as possible.
Main
Dashboard
When it came to designing the main dashboard, I wanted to keep all of the dashboard lights off of the main screen so it wasn’t distracting to the rider. The design has the RPMs big on the screen and also shows the rider the exact RPMs on the right side. In the dashboard research that was done, I found that the RPMs are more important to street hike riders specifically rather than the MPH.
Dashboard
Feature
The integrated dashboard feature always the rider to select between either their friends list, single riders, group rides, or they are able to create their own ride and invite all of their friends and allow others to join!
Riding With
Friends
Once the User has made a selection, they will then be taken to a confirmation page where there, they will be able to confirm the ride or go make a different choice.
After the user confirms, the dashboard will automatically start directions directly on the dashboard to the destination! This applys to the other three features, group rides, single riders, and when you create a group ride.
If the rider would then like to cancel the ride, they would press and hold the select button to cancel.
Creating A
Group Ride
When creating a group ride, the rider will have to select at least two of their friends to send a ride request .
Once the rider has made a selection of at least two friends, they are then able to send those friends a ride request to join their group ride!
Once they accept the ride, It will then show a popup to tell the rider who they are riding with. The rider is then able to hold down on the select button and cancel the group ride.
Finding
Single Riders
Once the rider has made a selection of a single rider they would like to join, they will then be able to confirm and send a ride request to that specific rider.
When the request is sent out the rider will see a ’ride pending’ tab in the top left corner. If they would like to cancel the ride request, they would just hold down on the select button and cancel.
Joining A
Group Ride
when requesting to join a group ride, it is the same process as single riders. When the rider selects a group that they would like to send a request to, they will then be able to confirm and send a ride request.
Same as single riders, when the ride request is sent out, the rider will see a ’ride pending’ tab in the top left corner. If they would like to cancel the ride request, just hold down on the select button and cancel.
Notifications
When a rider recives a ride request, they will be greated with a popup allowing them to accept or decline the request. If the rider accepts the request, they will then be able to add that rider as a friend!
